Cellular
Cellular connectivity refers to internet traffic carried via terrestrial mobile phone networks including 4G and 5G. High performance routers and antennae designed for the marine environment provide the ideal building block for your onboard streaming capable network. These newest network technologies can provide high-capacity over a wide area. The propagation of this infrastructure allows the populations to make phone calls and access the internet from almost every country in the world.
Low Earth Orbit
Iridium & Starlink dominate this sector at the moment; each with their own pros & cons.
Starlink is the (relatively) new kid on the block, focused on highspeed, low latency afforadable data services, while Iridium offers truly global voice and data that lends itself well to safety communications like GMDSS & Garmin InReach.
VSAT & Inmarsat
VSAT is a satcom technology that utilises geostationary high throughput satellites to facilitate exceedingly reliable two-way internet communications that can be used in a wide range of applications. Marine VSAT antennae are stabilised to provide that link in the most demanding conditions. It's worth noting that VSAT should be at the core of most satcom solutions, even when considering LEO and cellular higher speed services. This hybrid approach, centered on VSAT, provides the best of all options.

Not for everyone, but for vessels operating in limited geographic areas with a number of TVs onboard the cost-free data transfer remains a strong arguement compared to paying data subscription costs for the one of the most demanding bandwidth applications onboard; multiple high quality video streams.
