Here are answers to some common questions.
Mobile Phones offer us great independance and powerful computing in our pocket, but in remote locations and indoors signal often leads to reduced connection & signal performance.
An installed solution will often have outdoor mounted high-gain antennae.
Have 2 SIMs available for use by a modem can provide a number of benefits:
- In home country you may choose to have SIMs from two different network providers where one may have different celluar coverage in particular locations compared to the other allowing the modem to make connections where it may not on the initial SIM.
- If regularly travelling from one region to another you could have local SIMs for those regions so as to avoid roaming charges.
- For budget control a SIM with a certain volume of data could be a primary SIM with fallback to the backup when that SIM is exhausted.
With the Dual Sim solutions, the modem can only use one SIM at a time so the connection speed will be limited by the available bandwidth of that service, the modem & router throughput - the lowest of which will be the limit overall.
Also when switching from one SIM to the other there will be a loss of connection while the modem negotiates with the new provider.
All our dual & quad modems have dual sim slots for each modem.
Each modem in a multi-modem system will operate independently so could potentially provide double the bandwidth of a single modem to the connected users
Ideally we would would configure the modems to have different threholds / sim preferences and other means to prevent both modems switching cells at the same time in order that the router maintains a connection on one modem while the other is switching.
More than one modem also means it is possible to bond these connections via "Speedfusion" to create a link where even a user on a critical video call would not have to reconnect if one of the modems switched - see SpeedFusion service
Range will depend on a number of parameters but we have seen repeated cases where with a high quality antenna in a good location, and other best practice installation methods followed where speeds in excess of 20Mbps were acheived (single modem) more than 40km from shore (midway from Isle of Wight to Cherbourg as an example).
Of course if you add satellite connection as a failover then trans-ocean is easily achieved.
The routers include a great deal of management capability within the user interface and these functions like usage and many other parameters may be accessed locally or via a remote service known as InControl2 (IC2) - these can also provide automated reporting via email
Yes our cellular routers are unlocked to work with any SIM provider (certain countries may require specific versions of the modem to support particular frequency bands)
We are happy to provide quotation for unlimited, pooled SIM and managed SIM services as well as support your preferred SIM provider.
The features of our products and the recent upsurge in working from home mean that "home" could be a yacht, motorhome, mobile home or any manner of remote locations where staying connected is now not only possible but essential for modern working practices
